Dental Restoration
When a tooth is decayed or if an old tooth filling needs to be replaced, several options are available to the patient whether it is the choice of material used for the restoration or the type of treatment. Your dentist must provide you with the necessary information for you to make the best and enlightened choice depending on the cavity’s location, the cost of restoration, and of course your dentist’s recommendations.
At the Centre dentaire Patricia Skaf, you will not be offered any silver amalgam fillings, because they are an alloy of metals and of mercury. As we advocate overall health, it is obvious that mercury, a highly toxic metal even in small amounts, cannot be considered an option when choosing a material for a filling in your mouth!
Tooth bonding of cracks and fissures – an efficient and affordable preventive measure!
Fissures and cracks are deep openings or natural cavities that are mainly found on the chewing surface of the posterior teeth. The fissures and cracks between the teeth can easily imprison food fragments and it is very difficult to properly clean them, because even one toothbrush bristle is often too thick to reach the bottom of the crack.
Further to traditional measures such as teeth brushing and flossing, the bonding of cracks and fissures is an easy, effective and affordable preventive measure compared to tooth repair following a dental cavity. This procedure is recommended in most cases to protect the first and second permanent molars(called adult teeth) in children between the ages of 6 and 13.
The bonding procedure only takes a few minutes and is performed without local anaesthesia. The dental sealing comes in the form of a liquid resin that seeps through the tooth’s porosities, fissures and cracks during the procedure. At the end, the tooth’s surface is plastic-coated, smooth and easy to clean.

Replacement Crowns and Inlay Restorations
When a tooth is severely decayed or already has a very big restoration (filling), it becomes fragile and its remaining sides are subject to break at any time. Sometimes, when these sides crack, there is not enough dental material to restore the tooth. We must therefore proceed to other treatments such as surgery or a root canal treatment. Fracture risks of a tooth are also present when the tooth has suffered a root canal treatment, because it becomes devitalized therefore is often more fragile and friable.
To avoid fractures and to protect the sides of fragile teeth, replacement crowns and inlay restorations become essential. According to the scientific studies, to this day, materials used in crowns and inlays remain the most durable, biocompatible and safematerials for the human body’s dental and overall health.
Replacement Crown
A crown is a fixed prosthesis that covers the whole damaged tooth (decayed, fractured or following a root canal treatment) to protect it by reconstructing its shape, its aesthetic and its strength. Once cemented, it resembles a natural tooth in form, colour, texture as well as strength which is necessary for chewing.
At the Centre dentaire Patricia Skaf, our dental crowns are made in laboratory and do not contain any metal harmful to the organism (nickel and lead). Depending on the damaged tooth, our dentists will choose which material your crown will be made of (entirely of ceramic, CEREC, zirconia-based, gold or precious metals alloy) in order to optimise its efficiency without harming your overall health.

Inlay Restorations
An inlay is recommended when at least one side of the tooth is destroyed or damaged and the remaining part remains solid. Unlike a crown, an inlay does not cover the whole tooth, but simply one or several damaged sides. The dentist takes an imprint of the damaged side of the tooth and cuts this shape out of a porcelain or ceramic block of the same colour as your natural tooth.
